Huerfano Master Plan

In collaboration with Huerfano School District, this master plan was focused on assessing facility conditions and identifying long-term facilities goals. Wold assessed Peakview PK-8 and John Mall High School, and several meetings were held with Huerfano School District leadership, staff and community representatives to discuss facilities concerns, identify priorities, discuss funding options, and develop a plan for future improvements.

Walsenburg Jr./Sr. High School

The Walsenburg Jr./Sr. High School project is a collaborative effort between Wold Architects and Engineers, Huerfano School District, the District Design Advisory Group, and Nunn Construction. The proposed new school facility is designed to accommodate grades 7 through 12. The innovative three-story classroom wing, alongside a triple height cafeteria space, featuring a commercial kitchen, (2) CTE shop classrooms, (1) culinary lab, and a main gym with adjoining wrestling room, locker rooms, and a weight room, forms the core of the structure. The site layout prioritizes safety, efficient circulation, and passive solar design, while the building's exterior showcases a striking blend of brick and metal panels creating a visually appealing and durable structure. Internally, the building features flexible classrooms, collaborative spaces, and secure zones, emphasizing both functionality and security. The interior design incorporates a variety of materials, from polished concrete and porcelain tile to carpeted areas and wood flooring, ensuring durability and ease of maintenance. The project is expected to be completed early 2024, allowing for adaptability while aiming to create a cutting-edge educational environment for the community.

Thompson Facility Planning

In collaboration with Thompson School District, the District Facility Planning initiative commenced in the Winter of 2018. This effort was focused on creating a full set of educational and technical specifications from scratch to help identify long-term facilities goals for the future of the District. A dedicated team meticulously crafted the specifications through extensive collaborative sessions. Several meetings were held with Thompson School District leadership, staff and community representatives to discuss facilities concerns and to help identify priorities. This planning exercise laid the groundwork for future educational endeavors, ensuring a cohesive and forward-thinking approach for all schools, both existing and upcoming.

Riverview PK-8 School

The collaborative design effort involves Wold Architects and Engineers, the Thompson School District, District Departmental Focus Groups, District Design Advisory Group, and FCI Constructors. The project aims to support a unified school community catering to varying age levels, prioritizing collaboration among students, staff, and the community. The facility includes a two-story classroom wing, a one-story early childhood center with kindergarten, and a main and auxiliary gym. Situated on a 16-acre parcel, the site layout emphasizes safe circulation, passive design strategies, outdoor play areas, and age-appropriate spaces. The exterior design prioritizes simplicity, solar exposure, and interaction with the surroundings. The floor plan, shaped like the letter "I," fosters community, collaboration, and anticipates future educational needs. Interior materials prioritize comfort, durability, and engagement, with specific flooring and wall finishes outlined. With the project now successfully completed and the facility occupied, the thoughtful integration of community needs, educational objectives, and sustainable design principles stands as a testament to the achievement of a modern, inspiring, and enduring educational facility for the Thompson School District.

Colorado Springs Council Chambers Renovation

This collaborative initiative with the City of Colorado Springs commenced in the fall of 2020. This high-profile renovation project involved a comprehensive overhaul of an existing council chambers and associated infrastructure to accommodate the needs of nine council members, ensuring adherence to COVID-19 social distancing measures. The scope included technological upgrades, such as computers, monitors, cameras, microphones, and lighting, with a focus on seamless integration and remote accessibility. As the building is on the National Register, historic preservation considerations were paramount throughout the design process. Noteworthy design criteria encompass ADA accessibility, COVID-19 safety, historic preservation guidelines, and improved public participation. Various architectural considerations, including occupancy limits, dais layout, bullet protection, and aesthetic enhancements, highlight the project's meticulous attention to detail.
